The good – the bad – the evil

There are over 700 different types of microbes in your mouth!
Our oral cavity is home to over 700 different microbes, bacteria, viruses, microscopic fungi/microfungi, protists that together make up the oral cavity microbiome or oral microbiome (source - author: youtube.com - Ayman Abboud. What kind of sight will you see when you open your mouth, will there be good, bad or evil microbes? It depends on how you take care of your oral cavity, tooth brushing, the amount and quality of saliva, your age and the food you eat.
With what do you feed them?
"Don't eat too many sweets!" - your mom told you well, because besides feeding yourself, you also feed bad bacteria that break down sugars, creating an acidic environment in your mouth. Such an environment causes tooth decay, that is, dental caries, which is why we have to visit a dentist who will remove the damaged part of the tooth and cure it with a dental filling - a seal.

Tooth decay
A disease of dental hard tissues that looks like a black spot that we notice on the outer surface of the tooth. Don't let the bacteria win! Brush your teeth!

Bacteria are most abundant in the oral microbiome. Among them, streptococci play an important role.
These are Gram-positive bacteria that are seen in microscopic slides as tiny beads in shorter or longer strings. There are about forty different types of streptococci, which can be found on all parts of our body, especially in the oral cavity. Some are beneficial for their host - Streptococcus salivarius, some do damage to their host - Streptococcus mutans while some also cause life-threatening diseases - Streptococcus pyogenes.
